Homemade Salsa
We love Mexican food in our house and one thing we always have to have is salsa. The shop bought stuff is nice but it’s nothing compared to a proper homemade salsa! This tastes unbelievably fresh and adds a really nice twist to tacos or fajitas.
The first time I made this my daughter said she didn’t want to try it until the sauce was there. I think someone was a little too used to shop bought! She tried it though and that was it, she was hooked. I barely ever buy salsa now, this is cheaper and far tastier.
Ingredients
- 4 salad tomatoes
- 3 spring onions
- 1 small chilli
- 3 sprigs of fresh coriander
- Half a lime
- Pinch of salt
Method
Dice up the tomatoes into small bits and put them into a small(ish) plastic container. Chop your spring onions into quite small pieces and separate the rings as much as you can while putting them in with the tomato.
Finely dice up the chilli, only add as much as you want, this is definitely to taste! My children eat it so I remove the seeds and only use a bit of chilli about the size of my thumb, so you can taste it’s there but it doesn’t melt your face off.
Chop the sprigs of coriander, stalks included, and add it to the other ingredients then mix well. Lastly, add a pinch of salt and squeeze the juice from half a lime over the top. Give it another mix then pop a lid on and leave it in the fridge for a least an hour or so.
Serve with whatever takes your fancy and enjoy!
