This McDonald’s style egg in a cup trick is probably the easiest and quickest way to cook an egg! It looks like a Maccy D’s breakfast muffin egg but it is far healthier and tastes better too (in my opinion anyway).
This has become a breakfast staple in our house just because they are so quick. They make the perfect weekend breakfast.
I have recently found you can purchase a microwave egg poacher that does the same thing. It’s probably more faff than doing it this way though. Even though it cooks two eggs at a time they don’t cook evenly. Also, getting them out of the pot is more awkward than doing one at a time!
- 1 egg
- A mug
Spray the bottom of the mug with a bit of frylight then break the egg into the mug. Pierce the yolk gently with a knife.
Cover the top of the mug with a piece of kitchen roll just to contain any eggsplosions (terrible pun I know, but trust me, they do happen!). Pop the mug in the microwave and cook on a medium heat for 30 seconds, check the egg is ok then pop it back in for another 15 seconds, check again and pop it back in for another 15.
Giving the egg little breaks from cooking seems to be the trick for stopping the egg eggsploding (not even sorry for that one). I’ve had to clean my microwave because of these on far too many occasions but they are worth it once you get the hang of it!
I recently had to have a new microwave so I’ve had to learn to do these McDonald’s style egg again! I’ve not quite mastered it yet. I have had to turn the power down a little though as the highest is just a bit much.
