February – The Month of (Self)Love

Happy Valentines Day everybody! Now, I’m going to sound quite cynical but, I don’t “do” Valentine’s day. I don’t believe that one day is going to make a difference to a relationship and I think love should be celebrated every day. Love isn’t just tied to relationships either…..

    Bacon, Leek and Potato Soup

Bacon, Leek and Potato Soup is the perfect winter-warmer. I do love soup! There’s just something about it when the weather is miserable and cold. Soup is just the perfect meal. It warms you from the inside out. This Bacon, Leek and Potato soup is perfect for those grey, rainy days and is really filling thanks to the potato. It’s also a good way of using up some sad looking potatoes lurking in the cupboard. If you don’t fancy this one why not try my Chunky Vegetable Soup or Carrot And Coriander Soup With Crunchy Croutons instead? There’s a soup for everyone in my eyes!

Scan Bran Victoria Sponge (well not quite)

Scan Bran….. You either love it or hate it and I must say, I quite like it! Now, please don’t expect this to be like a proper Victoria Sponge because it’s not but as far as low calorie, high fibre cakes go, this scan bran Victoria Sponge is a decent one! Scan Bran makes quite a squidgy cake but it’s heavy, not light and fluffy like a proper sponge. I had half a cake as breakfast and could barely eat lunch which is not like me!

    When Life Takes Over

I don’t get food guilt anymore but I know a lot of people do. They eat a takeaway then regret it and even punish themselves for doing so. I like “bad food”, it’s half the reason I needed to diet in the first place, so I’m not going to stop eating it just because I’m “On Slimming World”.  I usually have a cheat night on a Tuesday after weigh in but sometimes life gets in the way and there are no good options available or, you just don’t want the good options so I will have bad food on a different day as well as my regular Tuesday.

    January Glossybox Reveal

New year, old box. We’re back to the classic pink for the first Glossybox of the year. This box is all about self care after a season of gluttony, which I for one am up for! I’ve tried my best to look after my skin as best I can this winter but it could always use a little more help.

    Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus was a little bit of an experiment. I love when my experiments go right though! I’ve never been much of a hummus fan but I decided to give this a go so I’ve got something a bit different for lunch. Now it’s got me thinking about summer picnics down the beach. This is the only way I will ever eat celery. I can’t stand it on it’s own usually! Shop bought hummus can be quite high in fat so this is a healthier alternative. Roasted Red Pepper Hummus is a little bit thicker but still tastes amazing. It also doesn’t take too long to make, as…

    Slow Cooker Pepperpot Stew

I love a slow cooker meal, and Pepperpot Stew is definitely one of my favourites. Slow cookers are just so handy for busy days and you can make perfect wintery stews. This particular stew is full of flavour but with a slight kick. The kids enjoy it too so it shows it’s not too spicy. You can make this with beef or pork, both taste great but I prefer pork.

    That Weird Week

Another year is nearly over and we’re currently in that weird week between Christmas and New Year where you don’t really know what to do with yourself or what day it even is. I’m failing miserably at getting back on the Slimming bandwagon but desperate to get back on the yoga train as I literally hurt everywhere! I think the food side I can slowly work on as I clear the crap food from the house and start to refill my fruit bowl with actual fruit instead of chocolate oranges and the pile of sweets that it is currently housing. The exercise part is going to start again today though;…

    Christmas Survival Tips

Losing weight is hard no matter what time of the year it is but Christmas has got to be the hardest by far! Everything you do around this time of the year revolves around food and drink: Christmas parties, drinks with friends and even popping to see family usually includes a mince pie or three.
